Two arrested in Agartala airport snatching case after driver and passengers were assaulted near Natunagar. Police recovered six mobile phones and seized a car used in the crime. Investigation continues to trace possible additional accused.
In a swift breakthrough, police have arrested two individuals in connection with an alleged robbery and assault targeting a driver and his passengers near the Natunagar area while they were en route to Agartala Airport earlier this week, officials confirmed on Friday night.
According to an officer from Agartala Airport Police Station, the complainant, identified as Alamin, a resident of Motinagar in Sonamura, reported that the incident occurred on February 25. Alamin had been driving his four-wheeler from Sonamura to the airport with several passengers on board when their journey took a violent turn.
The officer stated that the vehicle was intercepted by a group of unidentified individuals at Natunagar, a locality on the outskirts of the city. The accused allegedly forced the driver to change his route and directed the vehicle toward an isolated stretch. Once there, the driver and his passengers were reportedly assaulted and robbed.
During the attack, six mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of cash were allegedly snatched from the victims. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the crime, leaving the victims shaken but able to report the matter promptly.
Acting on the complaint, police launched an intensive investigation. Surveillance inputs and local intelligence led to the arrest of the prime accused, identified as Ricky Singh. Based on his disclosure during interrogation, another suspect, Ankur Chakraborty, was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Police confirmed that all six stolen mobile phones have been successfully recovered from the possession of the accused. Additionally, a car allegedly used in carrying out the crime was seized as part of the investigation.
One of the accused has been remanded to police custody for further interrogation. Investigators are currently probing the possibility of additional individuals being involved in the incident. Officials indicated that further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
The swift action by law enforcement has been welcomed by residents, especially frequent travellers who use the airport route. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining strict vigilance in vulnerable areas around key transport corridors.
