The DMK formed governments in 1989, 1996, 2006, and 2021, while the AIADMK emerged victorious in 1991, 2001, 2011, and 2016.
In the years following Jayalalithaa’s death, Edappadi K. Palaniswami assumed leadership of the AIADMK, while M. K. Stalin led the DMK back to power in 2021. Despite leadership changes, the fundamental binary between the two Dravidian giants remained intact—until now.
