Japan government has shown interest in developing communication systems in Tripura. The interest was expressed by the the Second Secretary of Japan High Commission in New Delhi Mari Sakai who met ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury in his office chamber on Monday.

Japan government is already involved in socio-economic development areas through the JICA projects. Apart from that Japan which has a close relations with India also helps in developing communication infrastructures.

It appears that Japan is now keen to enter into Tripura’s communication network as part of what Tokyo was doing in supporting strategic connectivity linking South Asia to Southeast Asia through the synergy between ”Act East” policy and ”Partnership for Quality Infrastructure.”

Besides, Japan and India had committed to build High-Speed Railway in India by introducing Japan’s Shinkansen System, which is the flagship project of Japan-India relation.

Japan had earlier also showed interest in developing the Buddhist sites of Tripura.

But this time Japan’s interest in Tripura’s communication network assumes geo-strategic significance as the state is ready to open up to the South East Asia with the Indo-Bangladesh connect being strengthened through Sabroom.

In fact ,India has been the largest recipient of Japanese ODA Loan for the past decades. Delhi Metro is one of the most successful examples of Japanese cooperation through the utilization of ODA.

Chowdhury said, Japan High Commission official arrived in the state to explore various possible aspects.

In his meeting with Mari Sakai, the ICA minister condoled the untimely demise of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. Chowdhury said, the former Prime Minister of Japan always emphasized cordial relations between India and Japan.

The discussion was positive and it would be fruitful in near future, Chowdhury commented in a social media post.
