A Class IX student from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Abhinaba Banik, Vivek Nagar Amtali, has clinched a coveted spot in the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Young Scientist Programme, YUva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA). Abhinaba’s selection marks a significant milestone as he emerges as the lone representative from the state in this prestigious programme.

The YUVIKA programme, scheduled to commence on May 12 and run until May 25 at the National Remote Sensing Centre (NSRC) in Hyderabad, aims to provide fundamental knowledge in space technology, space science, and space applications to young students, acquainting them with the latest advancements in space science and technology.

Abhinaba’s selection came following ISRO’s release of its initial list of chosen students for YUVIKA on March 28. This invitation marks yet another accolade in Abhinaba’s already illustrious academic journey.

Previously, he garnered attention for his pioneering research on COVID protocols, securing the top prize at both the 108th Indian National Science Congress in Nagpur and the 30th National Children’s Science Congress in Ahmedabad.

In addition to his scientific achievements, Abhinaba has been recognised for his talents in the visual arts and sculpture. He was awarded the India International Student Scientist Award 2020 from Tripura and received the Sir JC Bose Science Puppet Film Festival Award for his creative portrayal of Jagdish Chandra Bose’s life through puppet dance.

Abhinaba’s multifaceted success has earned him admiration and acknowledgment from various quarters, including the state Youth and Sports Affairs department, which felicitated him during a ceremony on National Youth Day 2024.
