Tripura University launches 16 student clubs under Diksharambh 2026 to promote creativity, leadership, digital literacy, teamwork, social responsibility and skills beyond classrooms through academic, cultural, technological, environmental and co-curricular activities.

Tripura University has launched 16 student clubs aimed at providing students with opportunities to develop creativity, leadership, communication, teamwork, social responsibility and other skills beyond conventional classroom learning. The initiative seeks to create a broader and more engaging learning environment for students during the new academic session.

The initiative is being implemented under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Debabrata Das and was showcased during the university’s Diksharambh 2026 programme. Newly admitted students participated in the registration process and enrolled themselves in various clubs according to their interests and areas of curiosity.

The 16 clubs cover a diverse range of academic, cultural, technological, environmental and social interests. These include Quiz, Debate, Film, Photography, Swachhata, Drama, Literary, Environment, Animal Welfare and Music clubs. Students can also participate in clubs dedicated to Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Unity in Diversity, Coding, Wellness, Nukkad-Mime-Street Theatre and Heritage.

According to the university, the clubs are intended to provide students with platforms where they can explore their interests while developing practical abilities through interaction and collaboration with their peers. The activities will allow students from different academic disciplines to come together, work in teams and participate in programmes outside their regular academic schedules.

One of the notable initiatives is the New Media Literacy Club, which will focus on helping students develop the ability to verify information before accepting or sharing it. The club is expected to conduct activities related to identifying misinformation, understanding media, developing critical thinking and promoting responsible digital behaviour.

University officials said the initiative is particularly relevant at a time when information spreads rapidly through online platforms and social media. By encouraging students to examine information critically, the university aims to help them become more informed and responsible digital citizens.

The university administration also emphasised that academic performance and examination results alone cannot fully define a student’s overall development. Leadership, teamwork, creativity, communication, organisational ability and social responsibility were identified as important areas that students need to develop alongside their formal education.

Throughout the academic year, the university plans to organise competitions, workshops, cultural programmes, awareness campaigns and other co-curricular activities through the newly established clubs. Such programmes are expected to give students opportunities to take responsibility for organising events, coordinate with others and demonstrate their individual talents.

Officials said participation in these activities could help students gain confidence and improve their organisational and communication skills. The clubs are also expected to encourage students to learn from one another by creating opportunities for interaction among students from different disciplines and backgrounds.

The response from newly admitted students during Diksharambh 2026 has encouraged the university administration to make the clubs an active part of campus life. The university is now looking to expand activities under the clubs and encourage greater participation throughout the academic year.

The initiative also reflects the university’s effort to broaden the concept of education beyond classrooms and examinations. Through activities ranging from coding and media literacy to music, theatre, environmental awareness, heritage and social responsibility, students will have opportunities to discover their interests and strengthen their abilities.

With the new academic session underway, Tripura University expects the 16 student clubs to become important platforms for co-curricular engagement, collaboration and personal development. The university said the initiative is ultimately aimed at helping students become more confident, capable and socially responsible individuals while ensuring that learning extends beyond the boundaries of classrooms.
