Tripura CM Manik Saha urges industries based on local raw materials; announces pineapple auction centre and encourages spice-making, matchmaking factories to boost economy and employment with eco-friendly focus.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today underscored the importance of establishing industries that leverage the abundant local raw materials available in Tripura. Addressing a review meeting of the Tripura Small Industries Corporation (TSIC) at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Dr. Saha urged officials and stakeholders to adopt innovative and out-of-the-box approaches for industrial development in the state.

The Chief Minister highlighted the rich natural resources of Tripura, including its vast forest reserves, pineapples, tea plantations, and rubber production, emphasizing the need to utilize these materials optimally for economic growth. “We must focus on creating industries that use local raw materials, particularly those that are environmentally sustainable and produce biodegradable products,” Dr. Saha stated.

A key announcement during the meeting was the decision to establish a dedicated pineapple auction centre in Tripura. This centre aims to facilitate better export opportunities for the state’s pineapple growers, connecting them to larger markets both within and outside the state. The move is expected to boost the pineapple industry significantly, increasing farmers’ income and encouraging further cultivation.

In addition to the auction centre, Dr. Saha proposed organizing a pineapple festival to promote the fruit and related products, thereby attracting tourism and raising awareness about Tripura’s agricultural produce.

The Chief Minister also called on the Tripura Small Industries Corporation to explore setting up a matchmaking factory and a spice processing industry in the state. He emphasized the potential these sectors have in creating new employment opportunities and diversifying the state’s industrial base.

During the meeting, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, along with TSIC Chairman and MLA Shambhu Lal Chakma, presented updates on the corporation’s current activities and future development plans. They outlined various initiatives aimed at strengthening small and medium enterprises across Tripura.

Other key officials present included Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte, Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, TSIC Managing Director, and other senior officers who participated in the discussions on policy implementation and resource mobilization.

Dr. Saha’s vision for Tripura’s industrial growth is aligned with sustainable development principles, focusing on harnessing local raw materials while promoting green technology. His call to action to TSIC and government departments reflects a concerted effort to build a resilient and self-reliant economy in Tripura.

The initiatives announced and discussed during this review meeting are expected to invigorate the state’s industrial landscape, encourage entrepreneurship, and provide a platform for local producers to scale their businesses through better infrastructure and market access.

Tripura’s emphasis on eco-friendly and biodegradable product manufacturing also positions the state as a potential leader in environmentally conscious industrial development in the northeast region of India.
