Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumdar reviews progress at the under-construction Jackson Gate City Hospital, expressing confidence that the facility will be ready within three months. The new hospital aims to reduce patient load and expand healthcare access across the capital region.
Agartala is set to witness a major expansion in its healthcare infrastructure, with the under-construction Jackson Gate City Hospital expected to become operational within the next three months. Mayor Dipak Majumdar visited the project site on Thursday to assess the ongoing work, review the progress, and identify critical tasks requiring immediate attention.
During the inspection, the Mayor expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction and emphasized that substantial progress has already been made. He said the authorities are confident that the hospital can be inaugurated within the targeted timeframe, significantly boosting public healthcare services in the city.
Agartala, the capital of Tripura, currently depends primarily on two major government hospitals that are struggling to handle the heavy patient inflow. With rising population, increasing healthcare demands, and growing medical complexities, the existing facilities have been under considerable pressure. According to officials, long queues, overcrowded wards, and stretched medical staff have made expansion a top priority for the government.
Speaking to reporters following the site visit, Mayor Majumdar underlined the urgent need for an additional large healthcare facility to share the burden of the already overloaded hospitals. He highlighted that the new Jackson Gate City Hospital was designed to provide improved medical services, specialized care, and quicker access to treatment for thousands of residents.
“Agartala has only two major government hospitals, and both are overburdened with massive patient inflow. This new facility aims to ensure better access to healthcare and ease the pressure on the existing hospitals. There has been substantial progress, and we hope to open this hospital soon so that people can benefit from it,” the Mayor stated.
The Jackson Gate City Hospital, once completed, is expected to include a range of modern medical amenities, advanced equipment, and upgraded infrastructure to provide timely and effective treatment. Sources in the Health Department confirmed that the hospital will feature multiple specialty units, emergency care facilities, diagnostic services, and spacious patient wards. The aim is to make the hospital a fully equipped, high-capacity medical center capable of handling complex cases while maintaining service efficiency.
During the site visit, Mayor Majumdar was accompanied by senior officials from Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Health Department who reviewed various technical aspects of the project. Major construction work has reportedly reached the final stages, with interior installations, equipment placement, and other essential preparations currently underway.
The Mayor also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for prioritizing the development of the Jackson Gate City Hospital. He credited the Chief Minister’s continued support and the coordinated efforts of the Health Department for ensuring the project stays on track.
“I extend my sincere thanks to Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and the Health Department for giving top priority to this project. Their guidance and cooperation are crucial for making this hospital operational at the earliest,” he said.
Officials accompanying the Mayor included Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, AMC Zonal Chairperson Ratna Dutta, AMC Commissioner Dr. Chakma, and other senior administrative officers. The team conducted a thorough review of construction progress, discussed the remaining civil and electrical works, and evaluated the readiness of various hospital units.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte noted that the department is working in mission mode to meet the target date. He also emphasized that once the hospital is inaugurated, it will significantly enhance the city’s capacity to deliver healthcare services, especially for economically disadvantaged sections of society.
Local residents, healthcare workers, and civic representatives have welcomed the news, saying that the upcoming hospital will bring much-needed relief to the city’s overloaded medical system. Many expressed hope that the new facility will reduce waiting times, improve patient care, and ensure timely treatment for emergency cases.
