Tripura royal scion and Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman urges citizens to prioritise producing civil servants, entrepreneurs and globally competitive products over politics, while praising HDFC Bank’s ₹25-crore CSR investment to boost rural development and skill-based growth in the state.
Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Monday appealed to the people of the state to focus on producing more civil servants, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals and globally recognised products instead of prioritising politics and political careers.
Pradyot made these remarks while speaking at the inauguration of HDFC Bank–funded CSR projects at the Agriculture Office Hall in Khumulwng. The projects are part of the bank’s commitment to invest ₹25 crore in rural development initiatives across Tripura.
Addressing a gathering of local residents, beneficiaries and officials, Pradyot emphasised that Tripura must adopt a broader vision that goes beyond electoral politics and political debates. “As a state, we need to have a bigger goal rather than politics,” he said. He cited several examples from other northeastern states that have successfully carved global identities through niche, high-value products and talent.
“Today, the king chilli of Nagaland is world famous. Meghalaya has multiple products of high value in overseas markets. Assam tea has earned global recognition. Footballers from many northeastern states are earning more than ₹10 to ₹15 lakh per annum,” he pointed out.
According to Pradyot, Tripura also needs to develop at least one such area of excellence to make its presence felt on the global stage. “In Tripura, we must have at least one of these specialities to make our presence felt,” he added, stressing the need for a shift in mindset among youth and policymakers.
Praises HDFC Bank’s ₹25-Crore CSR Investment
Pradyot lauded HDFC Bank for its decision to invest significantly in rural Tripura through various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He described the move as a model for meaningful and impactful investment in the state’s underdeveloped regions.
“HDFC has done a great job. There are many banks operating in the state but you stand apart by taking this decision to spend ₹25 crore for rural areas of Tripura,” he said.
He further added that effective utilisation of the funds would bring long-term benefits for underserved communities, stating, “If this money is spent wisely for the welfare of those who need it, the purpose is actually served. Trust me, it is more satisfying than getting your salary credited.”
Focus on Skill-Based Education and Strategic Investment
During his speech, Pradyot stressed that rural development and income generation cannot rely solely on traditional sectors. While appreciating the value of goatery, poultry and pig farming, he insisted that Tripura must prioritise skill-based education systems that can shape globally competitive citizens.
“I want to tell the people who are bringing investment to focus on one core area,” he said. “The goatery, poultry and pig farms are good for rural income generation, but what a skill-based education model can contribute will always have a bigger impact on society.”
He reiterated that Tripura must work toward shaping professionals who can become leaders in their respective fields. “We need to have more civil servants, more entrepreneurs and sports personalities because one successful person can redefine development for us,” he added.
A Call for a New Development Narrative
Pradyot’s remarks reflect a growing demand for transformation in Tripura’s economic and social landscape. With youth unemployment remaining a longstanding concern, many analysts believe that a push toward skill development, entrepreneurial training and promotion of niche industries could significantly boost opportunities in the state.
His message also resonates with the wider aspirations of Tripura’s indigenous communities, many of whom seek greater access to modern education, better career opportunities and pathways to compete at national and international levels.
By urging citizens to rise above political divisions and invest in long-term skill creation, Pradyot has positioned himself as a strong advocate for sustainable development. His speech at Khumulwng underscores the need for Tripura to channel its resources strategically and develop a workforce capable of shaping the state’s future.
