Tripura has achieved a remarkable milestone on the national stage by securing three prestigious honours at the National Panchayat Awards 2025, reaffirming its growing reputation for effective grassroots governance, sustainable development, and inclusive rural administration.

The state’s outstanding performance was led by Sepahijala District Panchayat, which was adjudged the Best District Panchayat in India under the prestigious Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. The Panchayat earned the top national ranking for its exceptional implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and innovative developmental initiatives at the grassroots level. In recognition of its achievement, Sepahijala District Panchayat received a financial incentive of Rs 5 crore.

The award reflects the district’s consistent efforts to strengthen local governance, improve public service delivery, and promote sustainable development across rural communities. Officials noted that the achievement demonstrates how effective planning and community participation can transform local administration and improve the quality of life for residents.

Adding to Tripura’s success, Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat in Unakoti district was honoured as the Best Healthy Panchayat in the country under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. The Panchayat secured the first position nationally due to its pioneering healthcare initiatives, public health awareness campaigns, and community-driven interventions aimed at improving rural healthcare outcomes.

For its exemplary performance, Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat received a cash award of Rs 1 crore. The recognition highlights the Panchayat’s commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare services, sanitation improvements, and better health infrastructure for rural residents.

Further enhancing Tripura’s national standing, Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat in West Tripura district secured third place nationally in the Women-Friendly Panchayat category. The Panchayat was recognized for its significant efforts in promoting women’s empowerment, gender-sensitive governance, and inclusive decision-making processes at the grassroots level.

As part of the award, Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat received a financial incentive of Rs 50 lakh, which is expected to further strengthen initiatives focused on women’s welfare and social inclusion.

State officials described the triple achievement as a landmark moment for Tripura’s Panchayati Raj institutions. They emphasized that the awards reflect the state’s unwavering commitment to strengthening grassroots democracy, encouraging innovation in local governance, and advancing sustainable rural development.
