Soon after the assumpion of power in 2018 Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had announced that his first and foremost duty of the government would be to make the state drugs free. After four years it seemed that to some grood extent the government had succeded in combating the menace, though the evil of drugs smuglling and use could not eradicated fully as yet. The Chief Minister recently shared some data about the success in the  Neshamukt Tripura campaign in the last two months in which it was recorded that  Tripura Police seized as much as 10,176 kg ganja and 1550 grams heroin in the first two months- January and February of the current year.

The Chief Minister also drew a comparison with the achievements of 2017 (last year of left front government).

According to Deb, 84 cases were registered and 99 persons were arrested along with seizures of 10,176 kg ganja and 1550 grams heroin in the first two months, this year.

In 2017, total 83 cases were registered and 65 arrests were made while police had seized 8589 kg ganja and 82 grams heroin.

On the other hand, the statistics released from CMO Tripura official page on Monday showed that 291 cases were registered and 406 persons were arrested under NDPS Act in 2020 and then 352 cases were registered and 501 arrests were made in 2021.

Last year, total 41565.245 kg ganja, 33312 bottles of cough syrup, 23326 contraband tablets and 3850.6394 grams heroin were seized in the ant-drug drives.

After the formation of the BJP-IPFT government in 2018, the state government led by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched a major crackdown on the ganja smugglers and drugs smugglers with the goal to build Neshamukt Tripura.

The Tripura Police and other security agencies are maintaining a strong vigil towards fulfilling the government’s goal.
