Tripura Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury accuses Chief Minister Manik Saha of spreading misinformation to hide BJP–TMP infighting, alleging governance failure, corruption, and political propaganda amid rising tensions within the ruling alliance.
Leader of the Opposition in Tripura, Jitendra Chaudhury, on Monday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, accusing him of deliberately spreading “falsehoods and baseless propaganda” to divert public attention from growing internal discord within the BJP–Tipra Motha Party (TMP) ruling alliance.
Chaudhury, who is also a member of the CPI (M) Politburo, alleged that the Chief Minister has made it a habit to blame the Left for every adverse development in the state, instead of addressing what he described as a serious governance crisis arising from lack of coordination between the BJP and its junior ally, the TMP.
According to the Opposition leader, Dr Saha’s repeated accusations against the CPI (M) were a calculated political strategy aimed at concealing visible cracks within the ruling coalition. He said the government was struggling to manage internal contradictions, which have increasingly spilled into the public domain since TMP formally joined the BJP-led government in March 2024.
Strongly rejecting the Chief Minister’s allegation that the Left was attempting to seize power “through the backdoor,” Chaudhury described the claim as “desperate and misleading.” He asserted that such statements were meant to distract citizens from what he termed a “collapse of governance and administrative credibility” in the state.
“The Chief Minister is using unparliamentary language and circulating fabricated narratives that mislead the people and lower the dignity of a constitutional office,” Chaudhury said, adding that Dr Saha was being fed misinformation by a close circle of advisers disconnected from ground realities.
The CPI (M) leader further alleged that the Tipra Motha Party had maintained a tacit understanding with the BJP even before it formally joined the ruling alliance. He claimed that TMP’s electoral strategy during the 2023 Tripura Assembly elections played a role in splitting the Left’s vote base, which ultimately facilitated the BJP’s return to power.
Chaudhury pointed out that since TMP’s induction into the government, internal conflicts between the ruling partners have intensified, resulting in incidents of violence, public confrontations, and administrative paralysis in several areas. He said these developments exposed deep mistrust and ideological incompatibility within the alliance.
Refuting Dr Saha’s claim that the CPI (M) was responsible for introducing insurgency in Tripura, Chaudhury called the allegation “historically false and morally offensive.” He reminded that several Left leaders, party workers, and supporters were among the primary victims of extremist violence in the state.
“A prominent minister, along with numerous CPI (M) leaders and workers, lost their lives to extremist attacks in the past,” he said, asserting that the Left had consistently opposed violence and worked for peace and stability.

Accusing the Chief Minister of dragging the CPI (M) into the BJP–TMP power struggle, Chaudhury also alleged widespread corruption within the ruling alliance. He warned that continued misuse of the Chief Minister’s office for partisan attacks could severely erode public trust in democratic institutions.
Urging Dr Saha to stop spreading misinformation, the Leader of the Opposition reminded him that as Chief Minister, he represents the entire state and not a single political party. “Tripura deserves accountable governance, not political blame games,” Chaudhury concluded.
