Tripura is soon going to witness a massive boost in business and industry related activities involving entire North East even as new Indo-Bangla trade routes coming to reality, through Sabroom in particular. And that will mean unprecedented activities bringing into action huge human movements along with the goods consignments storage, transportation and use,- which in turn will also inevitably invite new challenges and new shades of criminal activities in the state- the flash points being the bordering localities. And keeping all these in mind the new Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, who took over the charge only recently, has embarked upon a drive to make the Tripura police fully prepared to meet the emerging challenges.

“The police force should also be made fully ready and equipped to carry its tasks” said Ranjan, as he who was speaking to three senior journalists on Saturday –he is going to meet the senior scribes of the state in group wise.

The police chief said he is alive to the problems that may be thrown up in near future and will accordingly prioritize the police functions. And he indicated that there would be some more changes and new postings of several levels of police forces soon.

He said, for the next few months police will have their hands full– while Durga Puja is round the corner, the state will be going to polls in early next year—all these will require massive involvement of the police forces.

However, the police chief seemed, particularly disturbed at the recent theft and burglary incidents in the city.

“There were changes in the police set up recently and new officers will have their ideas put into action for tackling the situation effectively. I believe things will soon improve with some specific steps taken”, Ranjan said. He also agreed to the suggestions that beat policing and patrolling should be intensified while investigations and law and order handling should be separated.

Ranjan sought cooperation from the media in his tasks ahead.
