Tripura government plans ‘Prabashi Tripura Conclave’ to connect the state’s global diaspora with its development initiatives. The event, under TIFT, aims to engage overseas Tripuris in boosting entrepreneurship, education, and socio-economic transformation.
In a bid to strengthen its connection with people of Tripura origin living across the globe, the state government is planning to organize a ‘Prabashi Tripura Conclave’ under the aegis of the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT). The initiative aims to tap into the expertise, experience, and resources of the state’s global diaspora for Tripura’s sustained development and transformation.
According to official sources, the proposed conclave is likely to be held either in late December or early January, a timeline chosen to ensure the convenience of Tripura-origin professionals, entrepreneurs, and academicians residing in various parts of India and abroad.
A Vision to Connect and Collaborate
The ‘Prabashi Tripura Conclave’ is envisioned as a platform for dialogue and collaboration between the state government and the global Tripura community. The goal is to enable members of the diaspora to share ideas, resources, and professional insights that could contribute to the state’s socio-economic progress.
Officials stated that the conclave will highlight areas such as investment, education, technology, health, skill development, tourism, and cultural exchange, inviting overseas Tripuris to contribute both intellectually and materially. The event will also serve as a networking opportunity for successful professionals of Tripura origin who wish to give back to their homeland through mentorship, innovation, and partnerships.
Preliminary Meeting and Stakeholder Support
A preliminary meeting to discuss the proposed event was held on Sunday at the Gitanjali Guest House in Agartala. The session was chaired by TIFT CEO Kiran Gitte and attended by several distinguished personalities from diverse professional backgrounds.
During the meeting, participants expressed enthusiastic support for the government’s initiative. Many noted that Tripura has a vibrant diaspora with individuals excelling in fields such as science, education, information technology, public service, and business across India, Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
“Tripura’s diaspora can play a transformative role if connected effectively with the state’s development ecosystem,” said one participant, praising the government’s proactive approach. Others suggested that the conclave could become an annual event, helping to institutionalize long-term collaboration between the state and its global community.
Focus on Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT)
The Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT), which is spearheading this initiative, serves as the state’s think-tank and development agency. Modeled after the NITI Aayog, TIFT has been working to align government programmes with sustainable development goals and innovative governance strategies.
Through this conclave, TIFT aims to leverage the expertise of the diaspora in shaping new policies, fostering investments, and promoting innovation in key sectors. The institution is also exploring ways to establish a “Global Tripura Network”, enabling continuous engagement with overseas citizens through digital platforms.
Event Planning and Expected Outcomes
Officials said that detailed planning regarding the venue, structure, and participation modalities will be finalized in the coming weeks. The conclave is expected to feature panel discussions, cultural showcases, startup exhibitions, and partnership announcements. It will also provide an opportunity for the state to showcase its economic potential, infrastructural growth, and investment-friendly environment.
“The objective is to make every Tripura-born individual living outside the state feel connected and responsible toward its development,” a senior government source said. “We want to convert emotional attachment into concrete action—be it investment, knowledge sharing, or policy guidance.”
Strengthening Diaspora Bonds for Development
The move reflects Tripura’s growing emphasis on inclusive governance and participatory development. Over the past few years, the government has been making concerted efforts to attract external investment, modernize infrastructure, and promote entrepreneurship. The upcoming conclave is seen as a natural extension of these efforts—integrating the global Tripuri community into the state’s development narrative.
