Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury orders fast-track NH-8 expansion on Khayerpur–Champaknagar stretch, stressing urgency, coordination, and infrastructure growth to boost connectivity, commerce, and passenger movement across the state.

Delays in a crucial highway project have drawn renewed attention as authorities push for faster execution of a key infrastructure upgrade in Tripura. The Khayerpur–Champaknagar stretch of National Highway 8, considered vital for regional connectivity, is now under strict review with an emphasis on timely completion.

State Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has directed concerned agencies to accelerate construction work, stressing that the project is essential for improving both passenger mobility and commercial transportation. The directive came during a high-level review meeting held at the State Secretariat on Monday, where officials assessed progress and identified obstacles delaying the project.

During the meeting, the minister highlighted the need for proactive problem-solving and continuous monitoring to address on-ground challenges. Representatives from the Public Works Department and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited acknowledged that logistical and operational hurdles have slowed progress on the highway expansion. These include land-related issues, coordination gaps, and technical constraints.

Chowdhury emphasized that seamless coordination among departments is critical to overcoming these barriers. He urged agencies to work collectively while maintaining construction quality, noting that delays in such a crucial corridor could impact economic activity and daily commuting across the state.

The Khayerpur–Champaknagar stretch forms a significant segment of National Highway 8, which serves as a primary lifeline connecting Tripura with other parts of the country. Improved infrastructure along this route is expected to enhance trade efficiency, reduce travel time, and strengthen regional integration.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, Chowdhury stated that timely delivery of road projects remains a top priority. He warned that consistent monitoring mechanisms will be enforced to ensure accountability and progress in the coming months.

The push for faster execution of NH-8 expansion aligns with broader efforts to modernize Tripura’s transport network, aiming to boost economic growth and improve connectivity for both urban and rural areas.
