Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha launches the Sardar@150 Unity March, urging youth to learn about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s nation-building legacy. He highlights over 20,000 jobs created in Tripura and promises more opportunities ahead.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday underscored the importance of educating the younger generation about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s pivotal role in unifying India and safeguarding its sovereignty during the formative years of the nation. The Chief Minister made the statement after flagging off the Sardar@150 Unity March at the Circuit House area in Agartala, held in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
The event was part of a nationwide series of programmes commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, widely respected as the “Iron Man of India.” Dr. Saha said the entire country has been taking part in multiple initiatives designed to honour Patel’s unparalleled contribution to integrating more than 560 princely states into a single, unified nation following Independence.

“On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, several programmes have been organised in every state to remember his legacy and his tireless efforts to protect India’s sovereignty,” the Chief Minister said. He added that Patel’s leadership between 1947 and 1949 was instrumental in shaping modern India and preventing any threat to the nation’s territorial integrity.
Highlighting the need to familiarise young people with Patel’s legacy, Dr. Saha said that “many youths today are still unaware of his contribution,” and emphasised that strengthening historical awareness is essential at a time when conspiracies and divisive forces continue to threaten national unity. “Conspiracies are underway to damage the unity of our country, and we are keeping a close eye on them,” he cautioned.
The Chief Minister also informed that he would travel to Gujarat on Sunday to participate in a nationwide Padayatra organised to honour Sardar Patel. All Chief Ministers across the country have been invited to join this commemorative march, where discussions on Patel’s contributions and contemporary national challenges will be held at various designated stoppages.
As part of the observance, debate competitions and awareness programmes have been organised in schools, colleges, and academic institutions across the country. Dr. Saha said such events help inculcate patriotism among students and equip them with a deeper understanding of India’s nation-building process.
Along with commemorating Patel’s legacy, the Chief Minister also highlighted the achievements of the state government, specifically in job creation. He announced that the current administration has provided over 20,000 jobs across various departments in Tripura, with more employment opportunities expected in the coming months. “The state government has given over 20,000 jobs in Tripura, and in the coming days more job opportunities will be offered and this effort will continue,” he stated.

Dr. Saha reiterated that ensuring employment for the state’s youth remains one of the government’s foremost priorities, and added that transparent recruitment and development-driven governance are essential for building a progressive and prosperous Tripura.
The Sardar@150 Unity March witnessed the presence of several dignitaries and prominent personalities from the state. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy joined the event, alongside Biswajit Shil, In-charge Sabhadhipati of the Paschim Tripura Zila Parishad. Renowned gymnast and Padma Shri awardee Dipa Karmakar also attended the march, lending inspiration to the youth present at the ceremony.
Other officials in attendance included ICA Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar, SP Namit Pathak, and ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya. Their participation highlighted the significance of the nationwide celebration and demonstrated the state administration’s commitment to promoting national unity and historical awareness.
