The ‘Sardar @150 Unity March’ in Udaipur, led by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, celebrated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary with mass participation, highlighting national unity, youth involvement, and Patel’s enduring legacy in nation-building.
Udaipur witnessed a vibrant celebration of unity, patriotism, and civic responsibility on Monday as the district-level ‘Sardar @150 Unity March’ was held from the District Sports Office to the historic Matabari Temple. The event, organised to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, drew hundreds of participants and reaffirmed the enduring legacy of India’s Iron Man.
The march was led by Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who highlighted Patel’s unparalleled role in shaping India’s federal structure and unifying more than 560 princely states after Independence. Addressing participants before the march commenced, Singha Roy said the programme was organised not merely as a ritual, but as a reflection of the values that Patel stood for—unity, integrity, and national strength.
“This Unity March strengthens the ideals of national unity and nation-building. By participating, we reaffirm our pledge to build a more united and stronger India,” the Minister said. He added that Sardar Patel’s contribution continues to inspire generations, particularly in a time when India strives for social cohesion and collective progress.
Singha Roy also recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a monumental tribute to Patel by constructing the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, which stands not only as an engineering marvel but also as a powerful symbol of national integration. “The Statue of Unity inspires every Indian to uphold the values of harmony and national pride that Patel envisioned,” he told the gathering.
Mass Participation Adds Strength to the Message of Unity
The district-level rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens of all age groups. Dignitaries including Zilla Sabhadhipati Debal Deb Roy, MLA Abhishek Debroy, noted social worker Sabita Nag, senior district officials, and representatives of various local organisations walked alongside school students, youth groups, and volunteers. Their collective presence lent significant weight to the message of patriotic responsibility and mutual harmony.
As the march proceeded through the major streets of Udaipur, participants carried banners, placards, and national flags, raising slogans that celebrated India’s diversity and unity. The calm yet spirited ambience reflected a shared commitment to preserve the values that form the foundation of India’s democracy.
The rally concluded at Matabari Temple, where dignitaries offered floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Participants also observed a brief moment of silence, honouring Patel’s dedication to building a unified nation.
Unity March Organised Across Gomati District
Alongside Udaipur, the Gomati District Administration and Meri Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Gomati District, also organised a special Unity March to mark Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy flagged off this march as well from the Udaipur Sports Complex, emphasising the importance of engaging the youth in nation-building activities.

The programme was supported by the District Youth Affairs and Sports Department, which coordinated with educational institutions and youth-led organisations to ensure widespread participation. Students from various schools and colleges, NCC cadets, local public representatives, and officials marched together, symbolising collective responsibility and inter-generational unity.
The rally passed through several important locations in the district and culminated at the Matarbari Temple premises. The peaceful procession served as a reminder that national integrity thrives when communities participate actively in civic and patriotic events.
Minister Urges Citizens to Uphold Patel’s Ideals
Addressing the gathering after the rally, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s role in national integration remains unmatched in Indian history. “Every citizen must uphold his ideals of unity, discipline, and dedication to the nation. It is our moral responsibility to carry forward his vision of a strong and united India,” he said.
He also encouraged the youth to participate in community service, social outreach, and programmes that promote harmony and national interest. “The future of India lies in the hands of its youth. Their active involvement will strengthen the very fabric of our nation,” he added.
