Tripura launches a statewide Skill Gap Study under DDU GKY 2.0 to empower rural youth, especially in tribal areas, with industry-relevant skills, improve employment opportunities, reduce unemployment, and strengthen livelihood security through targeted training and professional workforce planning.

The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with professional consulting firm Forvis Mazars LLP to conduct a comprehensive Skill Gap Study across the state. The initiative marks a critical step toward aligning rural youth capabilities with emerging industry demands.

The Skill Gap Study will focus on identifying deficiencies in employable skills among rural youth, with special emphasis on the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) regions. These areas, home to a large tribal population, have long faced challenges related to limited access to structured skill development and sustainable employment opportunities. The study aims to address these gaps through data-driven analysis and targeted intervention planning.

Officials said the findings of the study will form the foundation for implementing structured training and placement programs under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU GKY) 2.0. This flagship initiative of the central government focuses on equipping rural youth from economically weaker sections with industry-relevant skills and linking them to wage employment in growth sectors.

To support the initiative, the government has sanctioned Rs 23 crore to TRLM in December 2025 under DDU GKY 2.0. The funds will be utilized to skill, train, and place candidates across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, services, logistics, healthcare, and emerging digital fields. The investment is expected to significantly enhance employment outcomes and reduce rural unemployment in Tripura.

The partnership with Forvis Mazars LLP is expected to bring professional expertise in labor market assessment, sectoral demand forecasting, and curriculum design. Officials noted that the firm will conduct extensive field surveys, stakeholder consultations, and data analysis to map existing skills, identify future workforce needs, and recommend customized training modules aligned with market requirements.

The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of rural youths, particularly those from tribal and disadvantaged communities, by opening pathways to both local and national employment opportunities. It also aims to improve workforce participation, promote inclusive growth, and strengthen Tripura’s contribution to the national economy.

The Skill Gap Study reflects Tripura’s broader vision of empowering its rural population through skill-based development. By preparing its young workforce for a rapidly changing economic landscape, the state is laying the groundwork for sustainable development, social mobility, and long-term economic resilience.
