Tripura’s Council of Ministers, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (BJP-IPFT) government, has recently announced a significant decision regarding recruitment for government jobs. In a press conference held at the secretariat, Minister for Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury declared that the possession of a Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) would now be a prerequisite for individuals seeking government employment in the state.

This move comes in response to the mounting demand for preserving local employment opportunities and ensuring that government jobs primarily benefit residents of Tripura. The PRTC will serve as a proof of permanent residency in Tripura and will be essential for candidates to participate in recruitment processes.

Minister Chowdhury clarified that in cases where suitable candidates cannot be found within the state, candidates from outside Tripura may be considered, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. This flexibility aims to balance the need to prioritize local candidates while also ensuring that vacancies are filled with qualified individuals if local candidates are not available.

The decision to implement the PRTC requirement for government job recruitment is expected to have far-reaching implications. It seeks to align recruitment processes with the government’s commitment to local empowerment and employment opportunities. While the precise impact on recruitment dynamics remains to be seen, this measure will likely shape the composition of the state’s workforce.

In a separate development, the Council of Ministers also approved the procurement of an additional 35,000 metric tons (MT) of paddy directly from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) during the upcoming Kharif season. This decision aims to support local farmers and bolster their incomes. An estimated amount of Rs. 85.64 crore has been allocated for the implementation of this initiative.

Since assuming power in 2018, the BJP-IPFT government has already procured 1.71 lakh MT of paddy from farmers, investing Rs. 327 crore in the process. This ongoing effort underscores the government’s commitment to uplifting agricultural communities and ensuring their economic well-being.
