The Tripura government would spend about Rs 50 crore in the next one year to develop sports infrastructure in the state, Information and Cultural Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Wednesday.  

Addressing a sports aid distribution programme at Tripura Sports School ground in Badharghat Chowdhury said, the state government is working positively to ensure that the lack of sports infrastructure does not affect players’ practices. To this end, sports materials are being distributed among the active coaching centres in different districts of the state, he added.

According to an official release, the state government has taken initiative to distribute sports equipment worth about Rs 94 lakh to 206 coaching centres under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The ICA minister said, “In accordance with the new Education policy of compulsory recruitment of physical education teachers at each school, about 300 new physical education teachers would be recruited in the state soon”.  

He said, total 150 new physical education teachers would also be recruited in the Youth Affairs and Sports department soon.

Earlier on Wednesday, the ICA minister in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varman inaugurated an “Open Gym” for the health conscious citizens and attended a sports accessories distribution programme organized by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, at Puranbari in Charilam.
