Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti at Murti Prangan and Gandhighat, calling for renewed commitment to non-violence, peace, transparency and constructive participation in society and national development.
Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu led tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, paying floral homage to the Father of the Nation at Murti Prangan, Circuit House, and later at Gandhighat. The programme highlighted the continued relevance of Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, transparency and social harmony in contemporary society.
The Gandhi Jayanti programme began with Governor Nallu offering a garland at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Murti Prangan. Ministers, senior government officials, dignitaries and community representatives joined the Governor in paying their respects to Gandhi. Musical performances dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi were also organised during the programme, creating a solemn and reflective atmosphere.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Governor Nallu stressed the importance of incorporating Gandhi’s principles into everyday life. He said that the ideals of non-violence, peace and transparency remain relevant and can guide citizens in building a harmonious and progressive society.
“Gandhiji’s ideals are timeless. Each of us must embrace them in our daily lives to build a stronger, more harmonious nation,” the Governor said.
He also called upon citizens to play constructive roles in society and contribute towards national development. According to the Governor, Gandhi’s philosophy provides a framework for peaceful coexistence and responsible participation in public life. He emphasised that remembering Gandhi should go beyond ceremonial observances and should encourage people to follow his principles through their actions.
Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, who was present at the programme, also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and highlighted the enduring significance of his teachings.
“May the timeless ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, and selfless service preached by Mahatma Gandhi Ji continue to inspire generations and guide us towards a more just, harmonious, and prosperous society,” Chakma said.
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, senior officials, community leaders and other dignitaries attended the programme. Their participation reflected the collective observance of Gandhi Jayanti and the continued public recognition of Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle and his philosophy of social harmony.
Following the programme at the Circuit House, Governor Nallu visited Gandhighat, where further commemorative activities were organised. The programmes focused on Gandhi’s life, philosophy and role in India’s freedom movement. Discussions and cultural activities also highlighted his message of peace, unity and social harmony.

Gandhi Jayanti is observed annually on October 2 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The occasion is marked through tribute programmes and activities promoting his teachings, including non-violence, truth, peace and service to society.
The observances in Tripura brought together constitutional authorities, ministers, government officials and community representatives to remember Gandhi’s legacy and highlight the relevance of his principles in present-day society.
