In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a Neshamukt Bharat, the Tripura government has adopted a zero tolerance policy against drugs. As part of this initiative, the Bhoomi Puja for the state’s first Integrated Drugs De-addiction Centre was held at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district on Monday. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who performed the Bhoomi Puja, assured that such facilities would be established in every district. The project cost for the 200-bedded facility is estimated at Rs 121.90 crore.

In addition to the de-addiction centre, the Chief Minister virtually laid the foundation stones for several other projects, including the District Transport Office Building, a road from Bishramganj Bazar to Chikancherra via Barkurbari, a new school building for Latiacherra High School, a Circuit House building, and additional classrooms and boundary walls for Charilam H.S. School.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working for the North East region and has introduced the Act East policy. We are also working following PM Modi’s vision. We are committed to ensuring all-round development,” said Chief Minister Dr. Saha. He emphasized that PM Modi always prioritizes Ease of Living, and PM-DevINE schemes have also been implemented in the state.

Dr. Saha highlighted the government’s efforts to combat the drug menace, mentioning that the Neshamukt Tripura campaign was launched in 2018 and continues to be actively pursued. He stressed the importance of identifying drug-addicted youths in schools and colleges and urged teachers to play a role in this effort. He also underscored the significant role of clubs in the fight against drugs.

The new de-addiction centre will serve as a referral centre with facilities such as a swimming pool, yoga, awareness programs, and more. “It will be a G+4 building,” Dr. Saha said, emphasizing the timely completion of the project.

The event was attended by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLAs Sushanta Deb, Kishor Barman, Antara Sarkar Deb, Tafajjal Hossain, Subodh Debbarma, and Biswajit Kalai, along with Secretary Kiran Gitte, Sepahijala District Magistrate Sidharth Shiv Jaiswal, and SP B.J. Reddy.
