Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy visits the family of Sabita Saha after a fatal truck accident in Udaipur, assures government support, highlights urgent road safety concerns at the accident-prone Agriculture Chowmuhani junction.

Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Wednesday visited the grief-stricken family of Sabita Saha, the elderly woman who lost her life in a tragic truck accident at Agriculture Chowmuhani in Udaipur earlier this week. He was accompanied by local MLA Ramapad Jamatia during the condolence visit.

The leaders met Sabita Saha’s son, Raju Saha, at their damaged residence and expressed deep sorrow over the devastating loss. The Finance Minister assured the bereaved family that the state government would stand firmly by them during this difficult time and extend all possible assistance to help them cope with the tragedy.

MLA Ramapad Jamatia handed over immediate financial assistance to the family on behalf of the administration. Both leaders also indicated that further support measures would be explored, including long-term rehabilitation and aid for rebuilding the damaged house. The visit aimed to provide emotional reassurance while reinforcing the government’s commitment to citizen welfare.

The fatal incident occurred late on Monday night when a speeding truck lost control near the busy Agriculture Chowmuhani junction, a crucial traffic point connecting two bridges. The truck veered off the road and rammed directly into the residential house where Sabita Saha was sleeping along with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

While other family members managed to escape moments before the impact, Sabita Saha was trapped beneath the heavy vehicle and died on the spot. Rescue teams from the Udaipur Fire Department and local police rushed to the scene following distress calls. Survivors were pulled from the debris, and the body of the deceased was recovered after a challenging rescue operation. She was later taken to Gomati District Hospital.

The crash triggered widespread panic in the locality. Neighbors described hearing a deafening sound as parts of the house collapsed, leaving the area in chaos. Many residents gathered at the site, shocked by the sudden and violent nature of the accident.

The incident has once again drawn attention to long-standing road safety concerns in Udaipur. Agriculture Chowmuhani is known for heavy traffic congestion and frequent accidents. Residents have repeatedly alleged that poor road design, inadequate traffic regulation, and the absence of proper safety infrastructure have turned the junction into a high-risk zone.

Local people are now demanding stricter traffic enforcement, installation of speed-control measures, construction of pedestrian crossings, and comprehensive road redesign to prevent further loss of life. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash, including possible negligence or mechanical failure.
