A four-member delegation of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) on Wednesday paid an inspection visit to Agartala for setting up a campus here in the state. Initially short courses on film studies will be introduced in the institute, said the members of the delegation.

The delegation was led by the Director-in-Charge of the institute Samiran Datta. Among others Registrar Dr. Sushrut Sharma, and another official Sduipta Bhowmuk visited the existing Nazrul Kalakshetra building. The minister of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Sushanta Chowdhury welcomed and escorted them during their visit.

Courses of various disciplines of performing arts imparted by ‘National School of Drama’ and ‘Lalit Kala Akademi’ are already being taught at Nazrul Kalakshetra.

After the inspection, Minister Chowdhury said, “Initially we visited Kolkata SRFTI campus to give shape to the talks for opening a campus in Tripura. We had a long meeting with the officials there and it was decided that a team would visit Agartala. Subsequently a team arrived here today to stock the situation. A three-member delegation team along with the director in charge, Registrar came to take stock and to see the infrastructures and other parameters here to start a campus of SRFTI”.

He said after the visit today they are going to meet Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for further discussion.

“Let us just complete this process and then the SRFTI officials will take the final call. I hope the infrastructure that we have can easily serve the purpose because the finance department has sanctioned an amount of money for the procurement of all essential things related to the SRFTI institution. Hopefully, very shortly we will be able to start the campus in our state”, the minister said.

Later on the issue, the Director-in-Charge of the institute Samiran Datta hoped that they would open the campus with short courses.

“There are a lot of scopes here to open a SRFTI campus of SRFTI. We are right now taking account of the options and positions that are available here and we will work on it and will get back.  I think soon we can start something here. Time will take to develop other infrastructure for a full-fledged institution, we can start with short and initial courses”.
