Former Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar lambasted the ruling BJP-led government in Tripura, alleging gross negligence in addressing critical issues like employment, food security, and public welfare. Speaking at the CPI(M) subdivisional committee conference in Belonia, Sarkar claimed the state is undergoing an “unusual situation” due to the government’s “irresponsible role.”

“There is a severe shortage of work, jobs, and food. The government has failed to ensure employment under schemes like MGNREGA and TUEP, leaving the poor to struggle. Disturbing incidents, like parents selling their children due to hunger, are surfacing in rural areas,” Sarkar said.

He accused the government of prioritizing festivals and musical events over pressing issues such as education and health. Highlighting the deteriorating education system, Sarkar said a lack of teachers in schools and colleges has significantly impacted students’ futures.

Regarding healthcare, Sarkar noted that primary health centers, once operational under the Left regime, now face acute shortages of doctors and nurses. This has left rural populations without access to basic medical facilities.

Sarkar criticized the BJP for allegedly misleading the people with false promises before assuming power in 2018. He argued that the government has failed to implement the 7th Central Pay Commission for state employees and has neglected to provide sufficient job opportunities for the youth, resulting in a sharp rise in unemployment.

“The BJP came to power by misleading the people, particularly the youth. Today, those very people are suffering due to unfulfilled promises,” he said.
