Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated an Urban Polyclinic at AD Nagar and five Ayushman Arogya Mandir buildings, highlighting expanded primary healthcare and an 80% decline in patients referred outside the state for treatment.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated an Urban Polyclinic at AD Nagar as part of the Tripura government’s ongoing efforts to bring accessible and quality healthcare services closer to people’s homes.
At the same programme, Dr. Saha virtually inaugurated the newly constructed buildings of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs at Radhanagar, Dhaleswar, Jagaharimura, Ujan Abhoynagar and Ramakrishna Shivalaya Ashram. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening primary healthcare infrastructure and improving access to medical services at the local level.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said providing healthcare services at the doorstep of the common people remains one of the key priorities of the state government. He said the government has been working to strengthen the primary healthcare system while simultaneously developing modern and advanced healthcare facilities across Tripura.
The Chief Minister said the establishment of the Urban Polyclinic at AD Nagar would further expand access to healthcare services for residents in the area. Such facilities, he said, are part of the broader effort to make healthcare more accessible and responsive to the needs of the people.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the state. According to him, around 1,110 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have so far been inaugurated in Tripura. The expansion of these facilities has strengthened primary healthcare delivery and made basic medical services more accessible to people in both rural and urban areas.
The Chief Minister said the newly inaugurated health facilities would help residents avail themselves of healthcare services closer to their homes and reduce the need to travel long distances for primary medical care. The expansion of the network is also expected to provide greater opportunities for early medical consultation and local access to healthcare services.
Highlighting the changes in the state’s healthcare infrastructure, Dr. Saha said there has been a significant decline in the number of patients referred outside Tripura for treatment over the past few years. He attributed the reduction to improvements in healthcare infrastructure and the availability of advanced treatment facilities within the state.
According to figures cited by the Chief Minister, 555 patients were referred outside Tripura in 2023. The number fell to 495 in 2024 and declined further to 366 in 2025. In 2026, the number has so far dropped to 161, he said.
The figures indicate a substantial reduction in the number of patients requiring treatment outside the state. Dr. Saha said the development of healthcare infrastructure and expansion of treatment facilities within Tripura have contributed to the changing trend.
He said the state government would continue working towards modernising the healthcare system and making it more people-oriented. The government’s focus, he added, extends from strengthening primary healthcare facilities to improving advanced and specialised treatment infrastructure.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came as the state continues to expand healthcare infrastructure through new facilities and upgraded buildings. The inauguration of the Urban Polyclinic and the five Ayushman Arogya Mandir buildings marks another step in the government’s efforts to improve the availability of healthcare services at the local level.
The programme was attended by MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Bishal Kumar, West Tripura Chief Medical Officer Shankar Chakraborty, senior officials of the Health Department, elected representatives and other dignitaries.

The Chief Minister said continued investment in healthcare infrastructure would remain important to ensuring that people can access quality medical services within the state. The government’s stated objective is to further strengthen healthcare facilities at different levels and reduce the need for patients to seek treatment outside Tripura.
