The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Sunday held a significant state-level convention in Kumarghat, sending a strong message about the need to overthrow the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The event saw the participation of senior party leaders, including TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha, and was aimed at reawakening the Congress party in the region ahead of the 2028 assembly elections.

The convention, held in Ratiyabari, Kumarghat, Unakoti district, focused on nine-point demands and witnessed the presence of various state and district-level leaders. Ashish Kumar Saha, in his address, sharply criticized the BJP government at both the center and state levels. He accused the BJP of using the administration to block opposition programs and creating ethnic differences for political gain, a situation he claimed the people of the state had never witnessed before.

Saha also accused the BJP of spreading drugs in the state despite their slogan of a drug-free Tripura. He alleged that the ruling party was destroying the youth by issuing licenses for liquor shops and creating a chaotic situation in the state. Furthermore, he questioned the previous promises made by the BJP, alleging that the current BJP-led government had not fulfilled the promises made to the common people, including the Scheduled Caste community, before coming to power.

During the meeting, 47 voters from eight families joined the Congress, and party leaders welcomed the new members with the party flag. The convention saw participation from workers and supporters from different parts of Tripura, with party leaders and activists strongly calling for the overthrow of the BJP in the coming days.
