The Jampui Mizo Convention has unveiled a comprehensive tourism infrastructure development plan for the Jamui Hills region of the state. In a letter to Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, the Mizo elders detailed the outcomes of their discussions with the minister during a meeting held at Eden Lodge on December 11 and 12, as part of the Tourism Promo Fest.
The letter highlighted several key tourism development projects for Vanghmun village and its surrounding areas. One of the prominent proposals is the construction of a sky-walk near Eden Lodge in Vanghmun village. This site has been locally identified for its potential to offer visitors a unique experience and scenic views of the region.
In addition to the sky-walk, the Mizo elders discussed plans to construct a tracking route adjacent to the proposed sky-walk. This tracking route aims to enhance the adventure tourism potential of the area and attract tourists interested in outdoor activities.
Furthermore, there is a proposal to explore potential sites for an eco-park in collaboration with the state Forest Department. The preferred location for this eco-park is on the northern side of Jampui Hill, near Vaisam and Hmawngchuan villages. These villages have been neglected in terms of infrastructure development for years and remain largely unexplored by tourists. The eco-park aims to promote environmental conservation while providing a recreational space for visitors.
The Mizo Convention also proposed the upgrading of the Tlaksih paragliding site. This upgrade includes constructing an approach road, civic amenities, waste management, and sanitation facilities. The aim is to improve the overall experience for paragliders and tourists, making it a more attractive destination for adventure sports enthusiasts.
Additionally, efforts are being made to promote Thaidawr Tlâng (Betlingchhip) as a nature reserve and wildlife park. This initiative emphasizes minimal human footprints and restricted artificial structures on the site, with any necessary structures to be placed at the entry and base of the peak. The goal is to preserve the natural habitat and biodiversity of the area while allowing visitors to experience its beauty responsibly.
The Mizo Convention emphasized that any tourism infrastructure and program implementation should meet the following criteria:
-
Community-based: It should economically benefit the local community, providing job opportunities and supporting local businesses.
-
Eco-friendly: It should protect and preserve the local environment and ecology, minimizing any negative impact on the natural surroundings.
-
Sustainable: It should promote local arts, crafts, and culture, highlighting the unique heritage and traditions of the region.
The letter to the Tourism Minister has stated that these initiatives aim to enhance the tourism potential of the region while ensuring environmental sustainability and community benefits. The proposed projects reflect a commitment to responsible tourism development that prioritizes the well-being of both the local community and the environment.
