The Tripura Pradesh Congress alleged on Thursday that one of their activists is missing following an attack by BJP-backed miscreants in Dukli, on the outskirts of the city. MLA Sudip Roy Barman, addressing the press from the Pradesh Congress Bhawan, stated that the incident occurred after an all-party meeting conducted by the BDO in Dukli ahead of the three-tier panchayat elections scheduled for August 8.
Roy Barman claimed that similar attacks on opposition workers and nominees are happening in Badharghat and nearby areas. The Congress expressed strong dissatisfaction with the election process, criticizing the Chief Minister’s role. They urged the State Election Commission to ensure free and fair panchayat elections, alleging that the BJP plans mass rigging to secure uncontested seats.
TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha reported attacks on Congress workers in other parts of the state, including Udaipur and Tepania. Roy Barman emphasized Rahul Gandhi’s slogan, urging party activists to move forward fearlessly and stressing unity among Congress workers and their alliance with CPIM members at the grassroots level.
The Congress leadership announced a mass movement to address key issues such as rising prices, lack of income opportunities, and irregularities in Shantiniketan Medical College. They demanded immediate action from the police to trace the missing Congress worker and arrest the culprits.
Earlier in the day, 10 retired leaders joined the Congress party, welcomed by AICC secretary Szarita Laitphlang and MLA Sudip Roy Barman.
