PM Modi launched two landmark agri schemes worth ₹35,440 crore to boost farm productivity, irrigation, and self-reliance in pulses. North Tripura is among 100 districts chosen for focused agricultural development under these national initiatives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched two major national schemes — the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses — together involving an investment of ₹35,440 crore. The initiatives are aimed at enhancing productivity, supporting sustainable farming, and empowering farmers through better infrastructure, credit access, and technology.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath virtually attended the national launch ceremony from the State Agriculture Research Station (SARS), AD Nagar, Agartala. Senior state officials, including Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy, and several public representatives were also present during the event.

According to a press release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana — with an outlay of ₹24,000 crore — focuses on increasing agricultural productivity, promoting crop diversification, and advancing sustainable farming practices. The scheme also emphasizes post-harvest storage solutions at the panchayat and block levels, irrigation improvement, and availability of both short-term and long-term agricultural credit.
The project will be implemented in 100 districts across the country, including North Tripura, which has been specifically chosen for focused agricultural development under the scheme.
The second scheme, the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, has an outlay of ₹11,440 crore. It aims to make India self-reliant in pulse production by improving productivity levels, expanding cultivation areas, and strengthening the entire value chain — from procurement and storage to processing and loss reduction.
Speaking to the media after the launch, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha described the initiatives as “historic” and said they would significantly transform India’s agriculture and allied sectors while uplifting farmers’ living standards.
“These projects will bring new momentum to the agricultural and allied sectors, fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047,” Dr. Saha remarked.
He highlighted the dedicated efforts of the state’s Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath and other public representatives who are working tirelessly to accelerate agricultural development across Tripura.
“The average food grain production per hectare in our state has increased in recent years. However, since North Tripura district is slightly behind in this regard, it has been specially selected for focused growth under this mission,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha further emphasized that special attention is being given to subsidies, infrastructure development, agricultural loans, training programs, and crop marketing. He noted that adequate arrangements for crop storage at the block and village levels are being developed and that improving irrigation facilities remains a top priority for the government.
The Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude and pride for being part of the national event on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh, two great visionaries known for their contributions to rural development and self-reliance.
“Today is a historic day for the nation’s agriculture and allied sectors. On the birth anniversaries of Bharat Ratna Jayaprakash Narayan Ji and Nanaji Deshmukh Ji, our Hon’ble Prime Minister has launched and laid the foundation for multiple projects worth ₹42,000 crore for empowering farmers. These include the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (₹24,000 crore) and the Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission (₹11,440 crore). These initiatives will enhance agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, and expand access to both long-term and short-term credit for farmers in 100 districts, including North Tripura,” Dr. Saha stated.

With the launch of these two major initiatives, the government aims to integrate technology, finance, and sustainable practices to strengthen the backbone of India’s economy — its agriculture. The move also aligns with the Prime Minister’s broader strategy to ensure food security, reduce import dependency, and empower farmers with better opportunities.
