Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced on Monday the launch of the “Plastic Free Tripura” movement, aiming to make the state free from plastic. The announcement took place during the inauguration of the “Melaghar Rath Yatra Mela & Utsav.”

During the event, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha spoke about the importance of preserving Tripura’s cultural heritage and the need for collective efforts in achieving this goal. He mentioned the recent visit of Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, to the Neer Mahal site, where she expressed concern over the presence of garbage in and around the area. Dr. Saha assured that the government would promptly address the issue and urged citizens to contribute to the preservation of Neer Mahal.

Emphasising the cultural significance of the Melaghar Rath Yatra, the Chief Minister noted its popularity not only within Tripura but also among visitors from Bangladesh. He acknowledged the rich art, culture, and traditions of the state, urging people to experience the beauty of tribal-dominated areas firsthand. Dr. Saha expressed pride in Tripura’s cultural heritage and the dedication of the people of Melaghar to preserving their traditions.

The Chief Minister also touched upon the growing importance of faith and spirituality, noting that even during the Prime Minister’s international visits, the significance of God is emphasised in his speeches.

Dr. Manik Saha described the transition from atheism to embracing faith and spirituality in Tripura, expressing his belief that divinity resides within each individual. He stressed the responsibility of preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

As the “Plastic Free Tripura” campaign takes off, the Chief Minister’s call to action resonates with the people of Tripura, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility towards the preservation of their cultural and environmental treasures.
