The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government on Monday, highlighting the prevailing power, water, road, and other crises in the capital city.
Under the banner of the CPI-M Sadar committee, a significant number of activists and supporters took to the streets, protesting against the deteriorating conditions in various parts of Agartala under the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
A senior leader from the CPI-M expressed his discontent, stating that the state government’s claims of Agartala being a “Smart City” were nothing more than a myth. Instead of witnessing the promised improvement in the quality of life and rapid urbanisation, citizens were grappling with numerous daily challenges.
The leader criticised the AMC for neglecting maintenance duties, resulting in dysfunctional water connections, damaged roads, and frequent power outages.
One of the main concerns raised by the CPI-M was the alarming issue of waterlogging. Even an hour of rainfall rendered the entire city inundated, leading to severe inconvenience for the residents. The party accused the ruling BJP of using the concept of a smart city merely as a facade for their own publicity, emphasising the lack of action taken to rectify the situation.
The CPI-M leaders also highlighted the deteriorating state of bridges in several areas of the city. They accused the Mayor of AMC, Dipak Majumder, of failing to address the collapsing infrastructure promptly, thereby endangering the safety of the residents.
In their pursuit of resolution, the CPI-M leaders announced their intention to meet with Mayor Dipak Majumder in the upcoming days. They aim to apprise him of the gravity of the situation and demand immediate action to address the persisting crises in Agartala.
