Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurates the Platinum Jubilee of Ramesh English Medium Higher Secondary School in Udaipur, highlighting modern education infrastructure, quality learning initiatives, and major investments in school buildings and sports facilities.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday reaffirmed the Tripura government’s strong commitment to strengthening modern education infrastructure and ensuring quality learning opportunities across the state through well-planned and inclusive initiatives. He made these remarks while inaugurating the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Ramesh English Medium Higher Secondary School in Udaipur, one of the state’s most prestigious educational institutions.

The four-day-long Platinum Jubilee celebration began with dignitaries paying floral tributes to the portraits of the school’s founder, late Ramesh Chandra Dutta, and its first headmaster, late Dhirendra Chandra Dutta. The ceremony reflected the institution’s long-standing legacy of academic excellence, discipline, and cultural values that have shaped generations of students over the past 75 years.

Addressing a large gathering of students, teachers, alumni, and guests, Chief Minister Dr. Saha described Ramesh English Medium Higher Secondary School as a cornerstone of Tripura’s educational heritage. He noted that the institution has produced numerous distinguished alumni who have excelled nationally and internationally in fields such as medicine, engineering, science, literature, administration, politics, and public service. Several former students, he added, have even gone on to serve as Chief Ministers, highlighting the school’s lasting contribution to leadership and governance.

Recalling the school’s history, Dr. Saha stated that the institution was established on January 2, 1951, through the visionary initiative of Ramesh Chandra Dutta, with significant contributions from his son, renowned educationist Birendra Chandra Dutta. He emphasized that the founders’ dedication to education laid a strong foundation that continues to inspire students and educators alike.

The Chief Minister pointed out that while the school originally followed a regional-language medium, it has successfully transitioned to English medium education in line with changing academic and professional demands. He said this shift reflects the institution’s adaptability and commitment to preparing students for global opportunities without compromising on values and discipline.

Highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure development, Dr. Saha announced that Rs 8.51 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a new school building to enhance academic facilities. Additionally, Rs 5.89 crore has been approved for the development of a synthetic turf football ground, aimed at promoting sports, physical fitness, and overall personality development among students.

Emphasizing the importance of holistic education, the Chief Minister said that quality education is not limited to classroom learning alone. “Along with academic excellence, the state government is taking multiple steps to nurture scientific thinking, innovation, and creativity among students, particularly at the school level,” he said. He added that encouraging students toward science and technology is essential for building a future-ready generation.

Dr. Saha also spoke about the role of education boards in shaping academic standards. He noted that while multiple education boards operate in Tripura, the Central Board of Secondary Education follows a uniform curriculum with a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, which plays a vital role in maintaining national-level academic consistency.

Reflecting on the evolution of education in Tripura, the Chief Minister stated that the Tripura Board of Secondary Education was established in 1976. Prior to that, students largely depended on the West Bengal Board and Calcutta University for higher education. Today, Tripura has several government and private universities, marking significant progress and self-reliance in the state’s education sector.

Finance Minister Pranajit Singh Roy, who was present at the event, described Ramesh English Medium Higher Secondary School as a guiding light of education, values, and culture for the past 75 years. He extended his best wishes for the success of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and praised the institution’s consistent contribution to society.

Other dignitaries present included Gomati Zilla Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, MLAs Abhishek Debroy and Jitendra Majumder, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K, and senior officials from the education and district administration.

He added that countless former students are today working with distinction across India and abroad, carrying forward the institution’s legacy. He assured that the state government will continue to support educational institutions in providing quality education and fostering scientific temper among students.
