Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protect and revitalise the rich culture and traditions of the 19 tribes residing in Tripura. Speaking at the inauguration of the century-old traditional Kharchi Puja at the historic Chaturdas Devata Temple in Old Agartala, Dr. Saha emphasised the government’s dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of the state.

Reflecting on his past experiences visiting the Chaturdash Devata temple during the puja, Dr. Saha highlighted the difficulties faced due to the lack of proper roads. However, he expressed satisfaction with the current infrastructure, which enables people to reach the temple without any problems. He noted that the traders who have set up stalls for the festival will also benefit financially. Additionally, participants from Bangladesh and other northeastern states have gathered to partake in the cultural events, making the festival a unifying factor for decades.

Dr. Saha announced the government’s plans to develop the infrastructure at the Chaturdas Devata temple and establish a trust for its development, similar to the Mata Tripurasundari Temple. The Chief Minister expressed his desire to ensure the temple’s long-term preservation and growth.

Acknowledging Tripura’s rich art, culture, and heritage, Dr. Saha emphasised that the state possesses a unique diversity that must be protected. He stated that the government is working diligently to safeguard and revive the traditions of the 19 tribes, ensuring that no culture or tradition goes extinct. The Chief Minister praised the efforts of local MLA and former speaker Ratan Chakraborty for his contributions to the Kharchi Mela.

The event was attended by Janajati Kalyan Minister Bikas Debbarma, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Ratan Chakraborty, and PK Chakraborty, Secretary of the ICA Department, among others.

Dr. Manik Saha’s dedication to preserving Tripura’s cultural legacy and promoting inclusivity reflects the government’s commitment to preserving the state’s rich heritage for future generations.
