Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha condemned the attack on former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s convoy in Bamutia, stressing that violence is unacceptable while highlighting police security, Village Committee elections and the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyan in Tripura.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has strongly condemned the attack on the convoy of former Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar in Bamutia on Sunday, stating that such incidents are unacceptable and do not reflect the culture of the state.
Speaking to reporters after attending an event in Agartala, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said he had immediately sought details of the incident and was informed by the police that adequate security arrangements had been made for Sarkar. According to the Chief Minister, the former Chief Minister had been provided with a double escort during the incident.
“I immediately inquired, and the police department informed me that he was provided with a double escort. He himself admitted that the police had done an excellent job,” Dr. Saha said.
The Chief Minister also referred to differing accounts surrounding the gathering at Kalibazar. He said some accounts linked the gathering to the issue involving 10,323 teachers, while others connected it with the Rose Valley scam. However, he maintained that irrespective of the circumstances or the identity of those involved, incidents involving such conduct should not take place.
“Regardless of who was present, it is not desirable for things to happen this way; such conduct is not part of our culture,” Dr. Saha said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid discussions over the security situation surrounding the former Chief Minister’s convoy. Manik Sarkar, a prominent CPI(M) leader and former Chief Minister of Tripura, was travelling through the Bamutia area when the incident occurred.
Dr. Saha also spoke about the Village Committee elections, which are being conducted after a gap of nearly a decade. He emphasised the importance of voters exercising their democratic choice and selecting representatives who can work for the development of their respective constituencies.
According to the Chief Minister, the representatives chosen through the elections will have an important role in addressing local issues and contributing to development at the grassroots level.
During his interaction with reporters, Dr. Saha also highlighted the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a month-long initiative launched to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. He said social organisations have actively participated in the campaign and have taken initiatives to become part of the programme.

The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation to the organisations involved in the campaign, saying their participation was helping strengthen the initiative and contributing to visible social transformation.

The remarks on the convoy incident, Village Committee elections and Seva Sankalp Abhiyan underline the government’s focus on maintaining public order, encouraging grassroots participation and promoting social initiatives across Tripura.
