Tripura cabinet approves expansion of a new TSR battalion with 203 additional posts, raising total sanctioned strength to 1,210. The state also received approval for a new India Reserve Battalion and cleared a contractual Director appointment for the State Forensic Science Laboratory.
The Tripura government has approved an expansion in the strength of a newly formed battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), aiming to further reinforce the state’s internal security infrastructure.
The decision was taken during the latest meeting of the state cabinet held on Tuesday. Announcing the development, Chief Minister Manik Saha said the battalion would receive 203 additional posts, increasing its sanctioned strength from 1,007 personnel to 1,210.
The move is expected to enhance operational capabilities of the TSR, which plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order and supporting security operations across the state. Officials believe the increase in manpower will improve deployment efficiency and strengthen the force’s response capacity in sensitive and strategic areas.

In another major development, the Ministry of Home Affairs recently sanctioned an additional India Reserve (IR) Battalion for Tripura State Rifles on May 15. The approval is being viewed as a major boost for the state’s security preparedness and policing infrastructure.
Apart from security-related decisions, the cabinet also approved a contractual appointment for the post of Director at the State Forensic Science Laboratory under the Home Department. The position is categorized as a Group-A Gazetted post and is expected to strengthen forensic and investigative capabilities within the state administration.

The latest cabinet decisions reflect the state government’s continued focus on improving security infrastructure, modernizing administrative systems, and enhancing institutional capacity across multiple departments.
