Tripura Cabinet approves new Ayurvedic and Homoeopathy colleges with 60 seats each and sanctions 555 government posts across departments. Major recruitment, IT cadre expansion, HRA hike, and tribal hostel stipend increase boost healthcare, employment, and welfare initiatives.

In a major boost to healthcare education and public employment, the Tripura Cabinet has approved the establishment of new Ayurvedic and Homoeopathy medical colleges while sanctioning recruitment and promotion across 555 government posts. The decisions were taken during a meeting of the council of ministers chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha.

Briefing reporters at the civil secretariat on Friday, Cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury said the state government has cleared a proposal to set up an Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Tepania in Gomati district. The institution will have an annual intake capacity of 60 students beginning from the 2026–27 academic session.

Until a permanent campus is constructed, the college will function from a temporary facility at Chandrapur in the same district. The move is expected to significantly expand alternative medical education infrastructure in Tripura and reduce the outflow of students seeking Ayurvedic education outside the state.

Homoeopathy College in Agartala

The Cabinet also granted approval for the establishment of a Homoeopathy Medical College and Hospital with 60 seats at the Netaji Subhas State Homoeo Hospital in Agartala, West Tripura district. The proposed college will operate from the existing state-run Homoeopathic Hospital located at Renters Colony.

Officials believe that the new institutions will strengthen traditional systems of medicine in the state, generate skilled healthcare professionals, and improve access to affordable treatment options.

555 Posts to Be Filled Across Departments

In a parallel push to strengthen administrative and technical capacity, the Cabinet approved recruitment and promotion in a total of 555 government posts across multiple departments.

Among the key decisions, 110 Veterinary Officer (Group B) posts under the Animal Resource Development Department will be filled through the Tripura Public Service Commission. This move aims to bolster veterinary services and improve livestock management across rural areas.

The Health and Family Welfare Department received approval to create and fill 100 Multi-Purpose Worker posts, equally divided between 50 male and 50 female positions. Recruitment will be conducted through a competitive examination process to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.

Additionally, eight Multi-Tasking Staff posts in the Directorate of Prosecution under the Home Department will be filled through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura.

Under the Power Department, seven Lower Division Clerk posts will be filled in the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency. Furthermore, a significant expansion has been approved under the Tripura Information Technology Service cadre, where 330 posts will be created and filled.

Clarifying the IT cadre recruitment, Chowdhury stated that 220 Assistant Technical Officer posts will be filled through the Tripura Public Service Commission, while the remaining 110 posts will be filled through departmental promotions.

Financial Benefits for Security and Tribal Welfare

The Cabinet also approved an increase in house rent allowance (HRA) for personnel of the Tripura State Rifles posted in New Delhi. The HRA has been raised from 24 percent to 27 percent with retrospective effect from November 2024.

In another welfare-oriented decision, the Cabinet sanctioned an increase in the boarding house stipend under the Tribal Welfare Department from Rs 80 to Rs 100 per day. This hike is expected to benefit 37,773 hostel inmates across the state, providing additional support to students from tribal communities.

Strategic Expansion in Education and Employment

The Cabinet’s decisions are being viewed as a strategic expansion of both healthcare education and employment generation in Tripura. The establishment of Ayurvedic and Homoeopathy colleges not only enhances higher education opportunities but also aligns with the national push to strengthen traditional systems of medicine.
