Tripura’s son Grandmaster, Pragyat Prasun made history in the world of yoga again. He has secured the fourth position in the World Yoga Cup 2022 organized by the Universal Yoga Sports Federation (UYSF) on June 26 and 27, 2022 in Delhi-NCR, India.

In addition to Malaysia and England, he has competed with competitors from different parts of the country to earn laurels for Tripura. Grandmaster, Pragyat practice yoga under the supervision of his coach, Shambhu Chakraborty.

Pragyat participated in the Yoga World Cup 2022 as a representative from Tripura in the junior category (11-12 years) under the banner of Tripura State Yoga Institute (TSYI) and Tripura Yogasana Sports Association (TRYSA).

 On the day of the competition and the day before, Pragyat became sick due to intense heat and temperature rise in Delhi NCR and its adjoining places. Considering his physical condition, his guardian forbade him to participate in the competition. However, the fatigue, dehydration, and illness, could not sustained in front of his strong self-confidence which propelled him to participate in the event.

The self-confidence of this little grandmaster, studying in standard sixth in Kendriya Vidyalaya, ONGC, Agartala and trained in the NSRCC under the abled supervision and guidance of his coach, Shambhu Chakraborty is an inspiration to people of any age.
Grandmaster, Pragyat has already set five world records, one Asian record and two national records. He started practicing yoga at the age of seven to get rid of respiratory problems. Practicing yoga with devotion as guided by his Guru and support from family & teachers helped Pragyat Prasun to become the first teenager in Tripura to earn the title of ‘Grandmaster’.
Son of the Tapasi Roy and Pradeep Sheel, Pragyat is a resident of Badharghat Matripally, Agartala, Tripura.
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. The Universal Yoga Sports Federation is working towards building a strong culture of enhancing the overall well-being of the human body by developing competitive attitude through the practice. Incidentally, India is hosting the World Yoga Championship for the first time. The theme of Yoga Day 2022 is “Yoga for Humanity”.
