Tripura CM Manik Saha chairs BJP organisational meeting ahead of Urban Local Body polls, focusing on election preparedness, organisational strengthening, candidate selection, development and good governance across 21 civic bodies.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday chaired an important organisational meeting at the BJP state headquarters in Agartala as the party stepped up preparations for the forthcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in the state.
The meeting focused on strengthening the party organisation, preparing a roadmap for the elections and intensifying grassroots-level activities across the urban areas. Leaders discussed organisational planning, candidate-related issues, reservation provisions, supervision mechanisms and ways to improve coordination among party workers ahead of the polls.
The upcoming elections are expected to cover 21 Urban Local Bodies, including municipal corporations, municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats. Recent reports indicate that the BJP has begun increasing organisational activity in preparation for the civic polls, with senior leaders reviewing arrangements and grassroots coordination.
Speaking before the meeting, Chief Minister Manik Saha said the primary objective was to prepare party workers for the forthcoming elections. He said the organisation was already in good shape and stressed the need for workers to increase their pace and momentum in the run-up to the polls.
According to the Chief Minister, several election-related matters were expected to be discussed, including candidate reservations, organisational appointments, supervision and overall planning. The meeting was attended by senior BJP leaders and representatives associated with areas covered by the 21 ULBs.
The discussions also focused on strengthening the organisation at different levels and maintaining closer contact with people. The emphasis on grassroots engagement comes as political activities increase ahead of the urban elections.

After the meeting, BJP Tripura Pradesh President Abhishek Debroy spoke to the media and outlined the issues discussed. He said MLAs, ministers, district presidents, Mandal presidents and chairpersons from areas covered by the 21 ULBs participated in the meeting to work out a preliminary roadmap for the forthcoming elections.
Debroy said the party would constitute competent committees in accordance with BJP guidelines and appoint prabharis, or observers, to oversee election-related activities. He said organisational coordination would be an important component of the party’s preparations.
On the issues that the BJP intends to highlight during the civic election campaign, Debroy identified development and good governance as the party’s principal poll planks. He pointed to ongoing work related to civic infrastructure and public amenities in urban areas and said the government was focusing on modernising infrastructure across cities and towns.
The BJP state president also said that ongoing infrastructure projects could temporarily cause inconvenience to residents. However, he maintained that the impact of completed projects would become visible after construction and development works were finished.
Urban development and civic service delivery have remained important areas of discussion in Tripura. In May 2026, a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha examined progress in urban development and ULB-related projects, with emphasis on infrastructure, civic services, transparency and citizen-centric planning.
The organisational meeting also comes amid broader preparations for several local-level elections in Tripura. A high-level BJP meeting in August had discussed preparations for upcoming TTAADC, municipal, urban local body and panchayat elections, indicating that the party has been reviewing its organisational readiness across different electoral areas.
During Thursday’s interaction with the media, Debroy also commented on the Gamaria episode. He described it as a matter requiring an impartial investigation and said the police were conducting their inquiry. He claimed that the sequence of events raised questions and rejected allegations linking the BJP to the incident.

Debroy further criticised claims made by opposition parties, including the Congress and CPI(M), saying they were attempting to gain political mileage from the issue. These statements represent the BJP’s position on the matter, while the investigation and any official findings remain separate from the party’s political claims.
With the Urban Local Body elections approaching, the BJP’s organisational meeting marks another step in its preparations. The party leadership is expected to continue focusing on candidate selection, organisational committees, grassroots mobilisation and public outreach as the electoral process moves forward.

The BJP’s stated focus on development and good governance places civic infrastructure, public amenities and local administration at the centre of its proposed campaign narrative for the ULB polls. The coming weeks are expected to see further organisational activity across Tripura’s urban areas as parties prepare for the elections.
