Tripura BJP expelled youth leader Manna Dey, President of Khayerpur Mandal, for circulating personal videos on social media, citing violation of party discipline. State BJP said his actions tarnished the party’s image. Dey accepted the decision but claimed conspiracy, vowing to continue social service despite expulsion.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has expelled a youth leader from the party after a series of personal videos involving him surfaced on social media platforms. The disciplinary action has once again highlighted the ruling party’s zero-tolerance policy towards activities that allegedly tarnish its image in the public domain.

According to BJP officials, the expelled leader has been identified as Manna Dey, who served as the President of Khayerpur Mandal in West Tripura district. His removal followed the circulation of several video and audio clips on social media, which the party leadership described as “indiscipline and unbecoming of a political worker.”

In a letter issued by State BJP General Secretary Amit Rakshit, Dey was informed of his expulsion from the party and relieved from all organisational responsibilities. The letter, approved under the directive of State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, clearly stated that Dey would no longer hold membership in the BJP or in any of its affiliated organisations.

The letter further instructed Dey that he could not use the party’s name in any manner going forward. “Recently, several video and audio clips of Dey’s close conversations between party leaders and personal lifestyle went viral on various social media platforms. Such actions are unexpected, undesirable from a political worker, and they violate party discipline. Your actions have also tarnished the image of the party,” the letter read.

The communication also mentioned that the party had earlier issued verbal requests and warnings to Dey regarding his social media activities. However, despite repeated caution, he allegedly continued to breach party guidelines. As a result, the BJP state leadership took the step of expelling him with immediate effect.

Reaction from Manna Dey

Shortly after his expulsion, Manna Dey took to Facebook to express his reaction. In his post, he acknowledged the party’s decision while claiming that he had become a victim of a conspiracy.

“I love BJP and I respect each party decision. Therefore, I also accepted this decision of my expulsion from the party. I am grateful to the BJP and all youth leaders and workers for giving me the opportunity to work for the party,” Dey wrote.

He further stated that he would continue engaging in social service and community activities, regardless of his political association. “I may no longer be in the organisation, but I will always stand by the people and work for their welfare,” his post added.

Political Reactions and Implications

While the state BJP has maintained a strict silence beyond the official letter, party insiders suggest that the decision was taken to send a strong message within the organisation ahead of upcoming political challenges in the state. BJP, which has been in power in Tripura since 2018, has often highlighted the importance of discipline and integrity among its cadres.

Observers note that the expulsion also comes at a time when the party is focused on consolidating its position before the next assembly elections. Any incident that could potentially harm its public image is being dealt with swiftly and decisively.

Meanwhile, some local political analysts suggest that Dey’s claim of being targeted by a conspiracy reflects an internal factional struggle within the BJP’s district units. However, the party has refrained from making any official comment on this matter.

The expulsion of Manna Dey underscores the BJP’s stance on maintaining organisational discipline in Tripura. Although Dey accepted the decision and vowed to continue social activities outside the party fold, the incident has sparked discussions about internal conflicts and the growing influence of social media in shaping political narratives.

With this move, the BJP leadership in Tripura has not only drawn a line against indiscipline but also reinforced its message that personal controversies of leaders will not be tolerated when they risk damaging the party’s reputation.
