Tripura Bhavan in Kolkata faces growing criticism over poor maintenance, unhygienic food, weak administration, and lack of accountability. Patients and families from Tripura relying on the government facility for medical visits demand urgent reforms, improved services, and immediate government intervention.

Fresh criticism has emerged over the deteriorating condition and alleged administrative failures at Tripura Bhavan in Kolkata, a government-run accommodation facility widely used by residents of Tripura, particularly patients and their families seeking medical treatment in the city.

Once regarded as an essential support center for people traveling from Tripura to Kolkata for healthcare and official purposes, the Bhavan is now facing mounting dissatisfaction over its declining infrastructure, poor maintenance, and lack of basic services. Visitors have described the condition of the building as alarming, comparing it to a “skeletal structure” that reflects years of neglect and inadequate upkeep.

For many families arriving in Kolkata during medical emergencies, Tripura Bhavan has long served as an affordable and convenient place to stay. However, several guests now claim that the facility no longer provides even the minimum standards expected from a government institution designed to support vulnerable citizens during difficult times.

One of the most serious complaints relates to the canteen services within the Bhavan. Visitors allege that the quality of food served is extremely poor, with many claiming that nearly 80 percent of meals are discarded because they are unfit to consume. Since the surrounding area reportedly lacks nearby restaurants and affordable alternatives, patients and their attendants are often left with no option but to depend on the Bhavan’s kitchen.

Several visitors have suggested that a slight increase in meal prices could help improve food quality and hygiene standards. Despite repeated complaints and suggestions, many claim that no meaningful corrective measures have been introduced by the authorities responsible for managing the institution.

Concerns have also been raised regarding staffing patterns at the facility. According to allegations made by some guests, a large section of the workforce is not from Tripura, despite the Bhavan operating under the Tripura government. This issue has sparked debate over accountability, efficiency, and the lack of emotional connection in managing a facility that primarily serves the people of the northeastern state.

Equally troubling are accusations surrounding the absence of an effective grievance redressal mechanism. Visitors allege that complaints are routinely redirected from one office to another without any resolution. Many have further claimed that senior officials remain inaccessible, leaving guests frustrated and unheard during moments of distress.

Criticism has particularly intensified over what many describe as administrative indifference and weak oversight. Guests argue that the institution is suffering from years of poor management, resulting in declining service standards and worsening living conditions inside the Bhavan.

The growing dissatisfaction has transformed Tripura Bhavan into a symbol of alleged mismanagement for many residents of the state. Civil society voices and concerned visitors are now calling for urgent government intervention, demanding immediate repairs, improved food quality, stronger accountability, and a transparent administrative system.

For patients and their families traveling far from home in search of medical care, the condition of Tripura Bhavan has become more than a matter of inconvenience. Many believe it reflects a deeper issue concerning dignity, public welfare, and the responsibility of state institutions toward citizens during times of hardship.
