Tripura TTAADC elections face scrutiny as the State Election Commission orders re-polling in three booths over irregularities. Fresh voting on April 16 aims to ensure transparency, security, and fairness in the crucial tribal council electoral process.

In a development concerning the electoral process in Tripura, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections have come under scrutiny after reports of irregularities surfaced from multiple polling stations. Acting swiftly, the State Election Commission has ordered re-polling in two additional booths under the 10 Kulai Champhahour (ST) constituency, bringing the total number of re-poll booths across the state to three.

According to an official statement, fresh polling will be conducted at the 3-Bhatimaydan SB School and 17-Ramdev Thakur Para polling stations on April 16. The decision was taken after a detailed examination of reports submitted by the District Election Officer, the Returning Officer, and other officials responsible for overseeing the election process. These reports highlighted discrepancies and incidents during voting hours that were deemed serious enough to compromise the integrity and transparency of the electoral exercise.

The Commission noted that such irregularities could undermine public confidence in the democratic process, prompting it to annul the earlier polling results in the affected booths. This move reflects a firm commitment to uphold free and fair elections, particularly in regions where local governance structures like the TTAADC play a crucial administrative role.

Earlier on the polling day, re-polling had already been ordered in one booth under the Pekerjaan-Janmejoynagar constituency, indicating that the Commission has been closely monitoring the situation across multiple locations. With the addition of the two booths in Kulai Champhahour, authorities are intensifying efforts to ensure that the electoral process remains credible and unbiased.

The re-polling is scheduled to take place on April 16 from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Election officials have confirmed that all necessary arrangements are being made to facilitate a smooth voting process. Enhanced security measures will be deployed in and around the polling stations to prevent any disruptions and to ensure voter safety. Authorities have also emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order during the re-poll.

In its appeal, the State Election Commission has urged political parties, candidates, and voters to cooperate fully and contribute to a peaceful and orderly voting environment. Officials stressed that active participation and adherence to guidelines are essential for restoring trust in the electoral system.

The TTAADC elections hold considerable importance as they directly influence governance and development in the tribal areas of Tripura. While the overall voter turnout has been steady, isolated incidents of disturbances have necessitated corrective steps such as re-polling.
