Post-poll violence in Tripura after ADC elections has been controlled, says DGP Anurag. Swift police action, arrests, and strict surveillance restored peace in affected areas like Shilachhari and Monubankul, ensuring normalcy and public safety across the state.
Sporadic unrest that followed the vote counting of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections has now been brought under control, with authorities asserting that swift intervention helped restore normalcy across affected regions. The assurance came from Anurag, who confirmed that law enforcement agencies acted decisively to stabilize the situation.
Tensions had briefly escalated in certain pockets after the declaration of results, leading to isolated incidents of post-poll violence. These developments raised concerns among residents and political observers, particularly in areas that witnessed heightened political contestation during the elections. However, officials maintain that the disturbances were limited and effectively contained.
After conducting an inspection at West Agartala Police Station, the DGP addressed the media, outlining the steps taken by the police to regain control. He stated that rapid deployment of forces, combined with coordinated action by local administration, ensured that the law-and-order situation was normalized without delay. Several individuals allegedly involved in violent activities have been taken into custody, and legal proceedings have already been initiated against them.
The police chief further emphasized that preventive measures, including heightened surveillance and patrolling, will remain in place to deter any resurgence of violence. Authorities are closely monitoring sensitive areas to ensure sustained peace and security. According to officials, regions such as Shilachhari and Monubankul, which had witnessed clashes, are now completely calm. Markets in these areas have reopened, and residents have resumed their daily routines, indicating a return to normalcy.
The administration has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and refrain from spreading or acting upon rumors. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with authorities and contribute to maintaining communal harmony during this sensitive post-election period.
The ADC elections hold significant political importance in Tripura, particularly for tribal governance and regional autonomy. In this context, ensuring a peaceful environment in the aftermath of the polls is crucial for sustaining democratic processes and public trust.
