After a long run in a truncated form Trinamool Congress in Tripura has got one president- Pijush Kanti Biswas. The eminent lawyer and former Congress president only two days ago joined the new party and his name as the state unit president of the Trinamool Congress was announced on Sunday in a press conference in presence of party MP Sushmita Dev and state in charge Rajib Bannerjee.
The post of the TMC president in Tripura was lying vacant since August when all of a sudden incumbent president Subal Bhowmik was unceremoniously removed without citing any reason. Since then – as it were the practice for many months before the party formed some sort of committees in state—Trinamool Congress in Tripura was running by visiting leaders from Kolkata. Naturally they could not make much headway while the elections approached fast.
Soon after the announcement of Biswas as the state TMC president the party went to its tweeter handle : The All India Trinamool Congress under the inspiration and guidance of Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial is pleased to announce Shri Pijush Kanti Biswas as the Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress State President. We wish the very best to him for his future endeavours.
Biswas who had been the Congress president of the state had serious trouble with other factional leaders. At last frustrated Biswas put in his papers as the TPCC president in August last year. He spent sometime without involving himself in any political party but had shown soft stand towards TIPRA Motha. However, lately he cosied towards Trinamool Congress which was looking for a leader of some standing in the state. So his son Pujan Biswas first went to Trinamool Congress and became the state general secretary.
In the press meet Pijush Biswas said, “I offer my sincere gratitude to Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee for appointing me as the party’s state president. I will try my level best to live up to their expectations”.
As the former Congress president he did not mince any words to express his frustration : “I tried hard to work for the Congress but it is not a party where people can deliver. I just meaninglessly wasted my time and energy in the Congress. No one can save the party from its factional feuds”.
He now felt, “TMC is the only alternative to oust the BJP from power. The party is a platform to work for the people and their welfare”.
