Plan has been taken to invest Rs 100 crore for preservation and development of tribal culture of the state through Tribal Research & Cultural Institute.

The institute is being constructed on about 10 Acres of land in Lembucherra under Mohanpur sub-division. It will be having a museum, library, auditorium and 19 tribal live huts inside, informed Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma at a press conference on Wednesday at Tripura State Academy for Tribal Culture, Suparibagan.

The Minister elaborately discussed upon development works such as Tribal Research & Cultural Institute, Tribal Welfare department, Economics and Statistics Directorate. Additional Director Ananda Hari Jamatia, Joint Director Rinku Reang and V. Darlong were present at the press conference.

The Minister said, a long-term plan has been taken for socio-economic development of the indigenous community of Tripura through cluster formation in the field of agriculture, horticulture, animal rearing, fish farming and rubber with the financial aid of World Bank. Special emphasis will be given to the quality improvement of education, connectivity and lifestyle in 12 Aspirational blocks of the state. For this purpose, a scheme, Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Sustainable Service Delivery Project (TRESP) is being planned. As a result, about 75,000 families will be benefitted.

Debbarma said,  as many as 1 lakh 31 thousand 692 families have been given land pattas in the state while implementing the Forest Rights Act. A total of 32, 722 families among them have been provided with government housing while Rs 49,50, 000 has been provided for treatment of the tribals of the state by Tribal Welfare department for 2022-23 financial year.

Rubber has been cultivated on 10 thousand 772 Ha land of 12 thousand 513 beneficiaries under Chief Minister Rubber Mission. Thirty two VanDhan Centres have been set up in the state.

Setting up of 21 Eklavya Model Residential Schools has also been approved.

To enhance services in hostels, biometric attendance system has been introduced, sanitary pad vending machines, computers with internet connectivity and solar lamps have been provided. A scheme named Supplementary Education for Elementary classes-2022. Total 9,564 students have been coached through 399 coaching centres in the financial year 2022-23.

In the past five years, boarding house stipend has been provided to 27,626 tribal students of Class I to Class XII. Besides, pre-matric stipend (Class VI to VIII) has been provided to 1,20,756 students, pre-matric stipend (Class IX to X) has been provided to 49,527 students and post-matric stipend has been provided to 1,08,439 students.

A one-time Rs 1 lakh has been provided to 321 tribal students. Free textbooks have been provided to 1,23,387 students.

Apart from this, total 606 tribal students have been provided with assistance to pursue B.Ed, D.LDA including nursing in the state as well as outside the state.

The Minister also informed the media that 208 books had been published through Tribal Research & Cultural Institute. These books were on sale at 25% discount.

 He also said, Directorate of Economics and Statistics works as a Nodal department for census and economic census in the state. It has its office in four districts of the state at present.

Steps will be taken to open office in rest of the districts. The Minister also elaborately discussed upon various other development works of the departments.
