TPCC president Ashish Kumar Saha blamed caste and religion-based politics for Congress setbacks in TTAADC elections, warning that divisive strategies could harm Tripura’s social harmony and democratic future while urging unity and political stability across the state.

The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashish Kumar Saha on Thursday alleged that divisive political strategies based on caste and religion played a major role in the Congress party’s disappointing performance in the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.

Speaking at a press conference after a review meeting held at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, Saha claimed that political narratives orchestrated from Delhi had significantly influenced the election atmosphere and affected the final results in the ADC areas.

According to Saha, the impact of caste-based and religion-oriented campaigning was clearly visible during the elections. He said such political practices create divisions among communities and pose a serious threat to the social fabric of the state. He further stated that intellectuals and conscious citizens from both the ADC regions and the rest of Tripura could understand the long-term consequences of such politics.

The TPCC president stressed that maintaining peace, unity, and communal harmony is essential for the future development of Tripura. He warned that increasing political polarisation could weaken democratic values and disturb the traditionally peaceful environment of the state.

Saha also expressed confidence regarding the organisational growth of the Congress party, particularly highlighting the increasing participation of young people in the Youth Congress. He said the steady rise in membership and political engagement among youths indicates that the Congress continues to maintain public support despite electoral setbacks.

The review meeting focused on analysing the performance of Congress candidates in the TTAADC elections as well as the Dharmanagar by-election. Senior party leaders, candidates, election observers, and district-level representatives participated in the discussion and shared feedback regarding campaign strategies and voter responses.

Among those present at the meeting were Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, former MLA and tribal leader Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, candidates who contested the ADC elections, the party’s candidate for the Dharmanagar by-election, and several other senior Congress leaders.
