Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) election campaign in various northeastern states next week, marking a significant stride in the party's electoral strategy for the region. His forthcoming visit will mark the first instance of a senior BJP leader launching the campaign in the northeast following the announcement of the 7-phase poll schedule by the Election Commission.
According to BJP sources, Shah will commence his campaign with an election rally in Aalo, located in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, on April 6. Following this, he will engage in meetings with state BJP leaders to deliberate on election-related matters.
Subsequently, on April 7, the Home Minister will proceed to Tripura for a two-day campaign, encompassing one or two election rallies and a roadshow in Agartala.
Prior to his departure from Tripura on April 8, Shah is scheduled to convene a meeting with state party leaders to further strategize the electoral campaign. The visit of the Home Minister underscores the BJP's concerted efforts to consolidate support in the northeastern states, including Assam, ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, and other prominent leaders are expected to join the BJP's campaign trail in the region. The BJP and its allies have fielded candidates across all 25 Lok Sabha seats in the eight northeastern states, as well as in the assembly elections of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, slated for April 19.
