In a significant step towards enhancing the state’s IT infrastructure, Tripura’s Minister for Information Technology, Pranajit Singha Roy, announced the establishment of a modern Data Centre during a session of the Legislative Assembly on Friday. The government has already allocated land for the proposed project, signaling its commitment to making Tripura a hub for digital development.

Three-Tier Data Centre Project

The IT Minister revealed that the state’s IT Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIXI-CSC Data Service Limited to set up a three-tier Data Centre. A 1-acre land parcel has been allocated to M/s Bharati Airtel Limited for the project, which involves an investment of over ₹200 crore.

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 200 people, providing a boost to the local job market and contributing to the state’s economic development.

Proposal for a Tier-Four Data Centre

In addition to the three-tier Data Centre, another investor, M/s PVM Invensys Private Limited, has submitted a proposal to establish a tier-four Data Centre in Tripura. This proposed project entails an investment of ₹100 crore and could create employment opportunities for over 100 people if approved.

Leader of Opposition and MLAs Participate in Discussions

The announcement came during a discussion on a private member resolution moved by MLA Abhishek Debroy. The resolution and subsequent discussions also saw participation from Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath, who deliberated on the significance of the IT sector’s growth in the state.

IT Sector Growth in Tripura

Minister Pranajit Singha Roy highlighted the strides made by the state in attracting IT companies. Several firms have already set up offices in Tripura, employing a considerable number of local youths.

He further emphasized the state government’s long-term vision of achieving ‘Digital Tripura’ by inviting renowned IT companies from across India and abroad to invest in the state. “The government is committed to providing all necessary assistance to investors to realize this vision,” he said.

Future Prospects for Digital Tripura

The establishment of advanced Data Centres is a critical component of the state’s efforts to strengthen its IT infrastructure. These initiatives are expected to not only create employment opportunities but also position Tripura as an emerging player in India’s IT landscape.

The Minister’s announcements reflect the government’s proactive approach to digital transformation, paving the way for technological advancement and economic growth in Tripura.
