State govt announces Rs 30 Cr for TTAADC development projects

 In a significant move ahead of the festive season, the Tripura state government has approved a Rs 30 crore package for developmental projects in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which is governed by TIPRA Motha, an ally of the ruling party. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared the news on social media on Wednesday, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and livelihoods in the tribal-dominated Sixth Schedule areas.

“Our government remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing infrastructure, livelihoods, education, healthcare, and the overall quality of life for the Janajati communities in the Sixth Schedule areas,” stated Dr. Saha.

The sanctioned amount will fund six key projects in the TTAADC areas, including:

1. Extension of a community centre and operationalization of the Mobile Medical Unit (Rs 10 crore).
2. Construction of an auditorium (Rs 10.30 crore).
3. Construction of a mini-stadium with a grandstand in TTAADC regions.

TIPRA Motha (TMP) chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma welcomed the state government's decision. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said, “After the signing of the Tiprasa Accord on March 4, the first lot of funds has been allocated to the TTAADC. I am thankful that the Honorable CM has listened to some of our requirements and taken this decision.”

Debbarma also pointed out the challenges faced in running the TTAADC without sufficient development funds and called upon the central government to contribute. “The floods have created immense damage in our state, and both the state government and TTAADC are struggling. The Government of India should give special status to our state and release funds for both ADC and non-ADC areas,” he stated, emphasizing that Tripura, as a sensitive border state, deserves special attention from the Centre.
