In Punjab, the Punjab Prison Olympics 2025 commenced at the Central Jail, Patiala today. The event was inaugurated by Patiala Jail Superintendent Varun Sharma.
This is the first time that inmates, including women, from 25 jails across the state will be participating at different levels.
They compete in sports like volleyball, kabaddi, tug of war, athletics, badminton, and shot put. The winners will then compete at the inter-zone level. Starting yesterday, the finals of the Olympics will be held on the 15th and 16th of March.
Sources said that such competitive sports events help inmates feel relaxed psychologically and think constructively to learn from their mistakes to come out as better citizens.
