TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman indicated that the party would resort to agitation since there was no breakthrough in the present standoff in regards to its demand for ‘Constitutional solutions’ to the indigenous people’s problems. Pradyot Kishore appeared particularly peeved at the state government’s explicit reluctance to meet its demand.
Soon after his revival in a press interaction at Agartala MBB Airport, Pradyot Kishore expressed his disappointment at what he felt ‘contrasting statements’ made by the Central and state governments. He then indicated that the TIPRA Motha might go for agitation. He said, the party would seek ‘alternative paths’ to meet the demands of the people if cooperation from the state government is not forthcoming.
“If the state government does not cooperate with our demands, TIPRA Motha will explore alternative avenues to address the issues at hand”, he said.
The TIPRA Motha Supremo mentioned that the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi had yielded ‘positive responses’. However, he expressed surprise at the contrasting statements issued by the state government.
Since all his announcements relating to the ‘Interlocutor’ fell flat on the face, Pradyot Kishore hinted that the state government might have thrown the spanner in the process.
Now, to go all guns blazing he is all set to restructure the party infusing new blood in the leadership. He said, TIPRA Motha has requested an appointment with the Governor to hold a meeting and discuss the prevailing issues. It is after the meeting that the TIPRA Motha would take the final decision- regarding the ‘alternative path’.
Pradyot Kishore said, ‘following a meeting with senior leadership, the party will undertake a comprehensive review of its structure and make necessary changes to enhance its effectiveness in addressing the needs and aspirations of the people’.
Pradyot Kishore also made an oblique reference to the recent statement of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha regarding the word ‘Maharaja’ he said instead of focusing personally discussions should be emphasised.
